Woman, 24, charged with criminal neglect of two children at Whyalla

A 24-year-old Whyalla woman has been charged with aggravated criminal neglect and aggravated endangering life after she was arrested on Friday.

The woman appeared by video link at the Whyalla Magistrates Court today where the prosecution told the court her child was found in an overflowing nappy filled with faeces and maggots.
Two children in her care were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Her lawyer applied for home detention, but the prosecution argued that she had seven previous convictions involving violence and that she told police that if she was released she would get the child.
However, her lawyer said the woman knew not to go near her children if granted home detention.
