Scott Morrison got a bit tetchy at a press conference this week when asked about the reform inspiration that Treasurer Josh Frydenberg was drawing from Thatcher and Reagan. "We're leading an Australian response to this," Morrison blurted. "A uniquely Australian response." It brought to mind Oscar Wilde: "Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious."
The Prime Minister has a pocket full of slogans. "Uniquely Australian" would include adherence to "Australian values", key elements of which are the claims of our "egalitarian" society, "a fair go for all" and, all together now: "We're all in this together."
